Grande Dunes Book Club
Who doesn’t like to immerse themselves in a good book? Well now you can join your friends at the Members Club, read some good books and discuss them. The Grande Dunes Book Club began in March and meets in the Members Club Library. The 1st book tackled was “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins followed by Empty Mansions by Bill Dedman in May and The Stranger by Harlan Coben for June. The club meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. This is an invitation-only event so please contact the Members Club if you have questions.

Why We Love Book Clubs

Book Clubs have been around for as long as there has been print. According to this article by Dennis Adams, Information Services Coordinator at the Beaufort County Library, “Book discussions are as old as books themselves, and certainly became more frequent with the invention of the printing press around 1455. The Encyclopedia Americana defined them as “fashionable assemblage(s), generally of literary, artistic, and political figures, held regularly in a private home.”

Today, they are a little bit different. They can take place in libraries, private homes, coffee shops or wherever people gather. Sure you are still required to read the book, but book clubs have morphed into social gatherings with wine, nibbles, and a good deal of laughter. Here are some tips to hosting a successful book club of your own.

If you are unable to join the Grande Dunes Book Club (due to scheduling, etc.), you may want to consider visiting your local library for one of their events. The closest library to Grande Dunes is located at: 2250 Carolina Forest Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579. Phone: 843-915-5282
