Grande Living: The Marina and Marina Park

August 30th, 2019

Among all the fun times, entertainment and sightseeing in Grande Dunes, a breathtaking destination awaits. As the staff of the Grande Dunes Marina will tell you, something extraordinary happens when you arrive here. The river from the south opens up after following its bends and curves; you realize the majestic sight in the horizon is your home port. With dear friends on board, you pull into your slip and secure the boat. Now the fun begins. Cold refreshments, good friends and listening to the water gently lapping at the boat is almost hypnotic.

At the Marina Park, residents get to experience a wide variety of amazing events and happenings throughout the year. As we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Grande Dunes, residents, Myrtle Beach locals, and visitors alike are invited to experience Grande Living through free concerts, movies and family-friendly events.

MEET THE TEAM

We spoke with Jason Poe, General Manager for the Marina about all the fun and amazing opportunities the Marina brings.

HOW DOES THE MARINA CONTRIBUTE TO A FUN LIFESTYLE IN GRANDE DUNES?

JP: Owning a boat means you get more than a conversation piece—you get a vacation with endless possibilities. Anytime you need it. Take an afternoon to explore nature one day, host a beachside get-together, with a boat you have unlimited possibilities. Every time you get on the water, you decide how to enjoy yourself.

HOW MANY GRANDE DUNES RESIDENTS ARE UTILIZING THE MARINA?

JP: The Marina was always breathtaking. Early on you could find most of the Grande Dunes residents on the golf course, but over the past nine years, I have seen more and more Grande Dunes residents become hybrids and enjoy all of what Grande Dunes has to offer. The Marina currently has 30 Grande Dunes residents out of 131 boaters.

HOW HAS THE MYRTLE BEACH COMMUNITY IN GENERAL UTILIZED THE MARINA?

JP: The Grande Dunes Marina is the only marina in Myrtle Beach. As such, we serve the community by offering summer dockage to our community. You don’t have to own a boat to enjoy what the marina has to offer, either. I see locals daily walking the marina taking in the sites or bring their family to the marina to take pictures and show off the marina. I am guilty of doing this. The Grande Dunes Marina is truly unlike any venue in Myrtle Beach.

WHAT’S A TYPICAL DAY LIKE WORKING AT THE MARINA?

JP: I enjoy the morning drive coming off Highway 17 on to Marina Parkway. There’s something that happens while driving down Marina Parkway. Trees on both sides the winding of the road and the last curve before seeing the Marina in all its glory, this is my most favorite time of the day. Just before the boaters show up for a day of fun, the marina is so peaceful with the reflections of the boats on the water. My goal as the manager will always be to build and maintain exceptional relationships with not only the marina customers but with everyone I may come in contact with as the manager.

WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE MARINA STORE?

JP: The Ship Store offering long sleeve and short sleeve shirts and hats in a variety of colors and sizes. We are certain to have something for all of your crew. The Ship Store inventory will be expanding, so keep watching for new products arriving soon! We also offer special orders on all your boating needs.
