Meet Rick & Sharon Fallon

October 12th, 2019

This month we spoke with Rick and Sharon and got to know more about their lives and why they love Grande Dunes!

Q. WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM AND WHAT SCHOOLS DID YOU ATTEND?

Sharon was born in Mullins, SC and raised in Jacksonville, FL. She earned her degree in Marketing from the University of Florida, Go Gators! Rick was born in Oneonta, NY and raised in Tallahassee, FL. He attended Eckerd College for his undergraduate studies and Penn State University for graduate school. His degree was in Gerontology and Theater Administration.

Q. HOW DID YOU MEET AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN MARRIED?

We met in Fort Lauderdale (not spring break!) while Sharon was the promotions director at WAXY, a local radio station, and Rick was promotions director for The Miami Herald. We have been married 31 years.

Q. DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS?

Our oldest son, Alex, lives in Tampa and works for a special effects company. He attended FSU where he majored in Theater Tech. Our youngest son, Patrick, lives in Ypsilanti, Michigan and works for a deli. He attended Eckerd College where he majored in Literature and Creative Writing. We have two rescue cats, Rainbow and Sunshine.

Q. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PAST TIMES AND HOBBIES?

We both enjoy tennis, boating and volunteering for the Community Kitchen. Sharon is active with Grande Dunes Cares and serves on the First Impressions team at OVBC. Rick volunteers as a driver for mobile meals and neighbor to neighbor and serves as a sound technician at our church

Q. WHAT DID YOU DO IN YOUR PREVIOUS LIFE BEFORE RETIREMENT?

In addition to raising our children, Sharon was an active volunteer in the community and church. Her career path prior to marriage ranged from being a Stock and Commodity Broker to hosting Incentive winners as a Travel Advisor around the world. Rick was a corporate executive with several international food companies. He was in Public Relations and Communications.

Q. WHAT’S ON YOUR COMBINED BUCKET LIST?

We love to travel, especially cruising, and have managed to do it extensively since Rick retired in 2010. One of our goals is to travel to Germany and retrace the path that Sharon’s father took as a prisoner of war in World War II. We also love visiting our home on Bald Head Island as often as possible.

Q. WHAT IS ONE THING PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?

Sharon was a cheerleader at the University of Florida. Rick is a huge fan of Florida State sports.

Q. WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO MYRTLE BEACH AND HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU LIVED HERE?

Sharon’s family has resided here for a number of years and we chose to retire and move close to them. We moved from Louisville, KY. and have been here for almost 10 years.

Q. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT LIVING IN GRANDE DUNES?

The convenience of things we like to do—the marina, tennis courts and the beach. We also enjoy attending the many activities and fundraisers at the Ocean Club and at the marina park. We greatly appreciate the work Peggy Davis is doing to create these activities!
