You Could Retire Anywhere. But Make Sure You Don’t Retire Just Anywhere.

March 9th, 2018

Sweet dreams are made of these: Grande Dunes has everything a retiree could desire—and then some.

You’ve been thinking about retirement for way too long. The time has come to stop working, settle down, and enjoy the life of luxury you so truly deserve. The only question is: where?

For a lot of people, it means finding a location that’s warm (goodbye cruel winter). It also has to be safe, have a reasonable cost of living, offer lots of entertaining things to do, and provide a true sense of community.

Don’t get too far ahead of us here, but does that sound slightly familiar?

Retirement dreams start earlier than you think.

Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand area attract visitors who return year after year. So it’s not surprising that many folks eventually decide to stay for good. Margaret LaCalle, President, Grande Dunes and Grande Dunes North explains it this way:  “I like to ask residents ‘Why did you retire here?’ What made you decide to make Grande Dunes/Myrtle Beach your home?’ ”

“Most of them say they came to Myrtle Beach as a child, and loved it. So as they grew older, and started to think about retirement, they just naturally gravitated here.”

One reason people choose Grande Dunes is that everything they want is ready and waiting for them. “The great thing about Grande Dunes is that the amenities are already here,” Margaret says. “You don’t have to imagine it or look at some rendering of the future. You can start living our lifestyle from Day One, whether it’s playing golf or enjoying the beach with your family.”

Jim and Jayne took a look around. They liked what they saw.

Jim and Jayne Waugh became members of the Grande Dunes community a little over nine years ago. What prompted them to consider the Myrtle Beach area, and Grande Dunes in particular?

“Well, we used to come to Myrtle Beach for vacation all the time,” explains Jim. “And I always felt relaxed. I figured that was a good sign.” So the Waughs looked all around the area, came to Grande Dunes, and fell in love with the Villas. And even though Jim is still not retired (he spends several months a year running his beer and wine distributorship out of West Virginia), they decided the opportunity was too perfect to pass up. “It’s beautiful. It’s safe. And it’s everything we wanted. How could we say no?”

Costal resort living with a real sense of community.

“When we first got here, we didn’t know anyone at all,” Jane remembers. But that changed almost overnight. “It’s so easy to get to know people, because everyone here is so accepting,” she adds. Jim and Jayne joined the Members Club, which made meeting new people and making friends even easier. Jim is especially enthusiastic about joining the Members Club. “Even if you don’t play golf, you should consider a social membership. It’s very inexpensive and there are so many things going on—all the time!”

Jayne agrees. “Someone is always having a party and there’s always an invite waiting. Every week I go out with a bunch of women in our Lunch Bunch. The opportunities for socializing are endless!”

A typical day is anything but typical.

What do Jim and Jayne do here? Why, anything they want to, of course. For Jim, that usually includes a round of golf, and you’re likely to find Jayne at a morning yoga class or doing water aerobics in the afternoon. But they also meet friends for happy hour at the Anchor Marina, attend cookouts, or take a short drive for a multitude of nearby diversions that include the theater, up-and-coming restaurants, shopping, live music and shows, and much, much more.

They enjoy the quiet times together as well, whether it’s a long, relaxed dinner, curled up under an umbrella with a good book, or taking a leisurely walk along the beach. “That’s just it,” explains Jim. “You can have either lifestyle, any time you want.”

Now there’s another great reason to consider living at Grande Dunes.

Grande Dunes has recently begun construction on Waterside Pointe, a gated 55+ community of custom homes being built in partnership with Del Webb. This new neighborhood will consist of a collection of 47 home sites featuring stunning waterfront views, Lowcountry architecture, private beach access, and exceptional lifestyle amenities.

It’s a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for those who act swiftly. Like Jim and Jayne, you may end up saying to yourself “It’s everything we wanted. How could we say no?”
