From time-to-time, we’ll be sharing some tips about how to approach specific holes on the Grande Dunes Members Club golf course. This month we’re focusing on the 16th hole. Measuring 213 yards from the Championship Tees, the sixteenth hole at Grande Dunes Members Club is a fantastic design that rewards a player who can control distance and trajectory. Players will not want to take on the right side of the green as the hole is heavily protected by a bunker and water hazard. The prevailing wind is most often into your face and slightly right. Front left gives you the safest miss, leaving golfers with an uphill chip shot to a green that slopes heavily from back to front. When these greens are quick, a putt from above the hole could be treacherous!

According to Brian Vest, Golf Pro at the Members Club, “The 16th hole can be a very challenging par late in a round of golf.  Coming off a very demanding par 5, you are faced with a lengthy par 3 with the wind seemingly always in your face.  Personally, I always try and air on the side of caution, which is to be long.  My goal is to always take short or right out of the equation on this particular hole.”
