Meet Your Lifestyle Director

August 7th, 2018

Grande Dunes Lifestyle Director Peggy DavisPeggy Davis often says people want to call her Julie, after the iconic Love Boat cruise director. In many ways, Peggy fulfills a similar role for 1,256 residents at Grande Dunes – making sure fun, fitness and friendship abound in our beautiful coastal community.

FITNESS FIRST

When she started last spring, Peggy asked us to identify our most desired activity. It’s fitness, and thanks to Peggy, we now have weekly yoga, aerobics, water fitness, body sculpting and the popular Sit and Be Fit — vigorous chair-based exercise safe for everyone. She also helped change the south veranda at the Ocean Club to accommodate nonsmokers, while the north welcomes smokers.

WE WANT TO CONNECT IN A FUN WAY

Grande Dunes residents, she discovered, want to get to know each other. That’s one reason she has a spreadsheet with our common, if varied, interests. Pottery, photography, walking and running groups, and deep-sea fishing are already in the works. What else do you envision at Grande Dunes? Be sure to complete Peggy’s survey, found in the Ocean Club foyer, Friday newsletter and your new member packet. She needs coordinators for all of the new groups and clubs, and individuals with an expertise to share.

GRANDE DUNES & MYRTLE BEACH EVENTS

While the Ocean Club is the location for most activities, some will be offsite, with the pottery class eventually meeting at the Museum of Myrtle Beach, the photography club meeting on field shoots and the walking/running groups meeting at the Fleet Feet store. Peggy aims for the optimal environment for each activity.

ORGANIZING FOR YOUR FAVORITE CHARITY

Have a favorite nonprofit? You can organize a walk, run, donation drive or volunteer effort — Peggy can help make it happen. Our public events, such as our monthly movie and concert at Marina Park, always support a local charity. Mark your calendar for September 15, when the Long Bay Symphony will perform, and benefit Help4Kids.

RECONNECT WITH NATURAL TALENTS

Feel overwhelmed by all the activities? Be brave and try anything. Peggy rediscovered painting, her first time since high school, in watercolor class. “It was so much fun!” she said. And you may see her in the upcoming travel club. Two years ago, the blue Caribbean waters mesmerized her on her first cruise. Maybe Peggy really is our cruise director!
